Assistant Principal

Year 10, 11 and 12

At Whyalla Secondary College, the senior years (Years 10, 11 and 12) provide students with a rich and supportive environment as they embark upon or continue their South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) journey. Our broad, inclusive curriculum fosters academic growth, personal development, and the specialist knowledge and employability skills required for a rapidly changing world.
Year 10 marks the beginning of the SACE pathway. Students complete the Exploring Identities and Futures (EIF) topic, accumulate their first SACE credits, and receive guidance in selecting Year 11 and 12 subjects to suit their unique interests and career aspirations. Alongside core Australian Curriculum subjects, students choose from a range of specialist electives, supported by passionate teachers and state-of-the-art facilities. Entrepreneurial learning is a key focus in Year 10, with students participating in an enterprise elective and presenting their business ventures on Market Day. Through the Futures camp and targeted mentoring, students are counselled into subjects and pathways and gain valuable insights into secondary road safety and post-school opportunities. The Care Group program further enhances student wellbeing, exploring House Culture, ATRiUM capabilities, Aboriginal culture, the Open Parachute program, and the SHINE SA sexuality and relationships education.
As students progress into Years 11 and 12, they continue refining their paths towards university, TAFE, apprenticeships, traineeships, or employment. Extensive SACE options, industry links, and vocational pathways ensure each student can pursue their preferred post-school destination. Our authentic learning opportunities include academic, vocational, industry, and entrepreneurial experiences, preparing students for real-world success. The Mentoring  program supports wellbeing, resilience, and personal growth, helping students develop self-efficacy and a sense of belonging. Throughout their senior years, students benefit from a variety of career development activities, including National Careers Week, industry excursions, interschool sport, and a wide range of personal development programs. High-quality, differentiated teaching supports every learner, recognising and responding to individual strengths.
Our senior school is characterised by strong relationships, open communication with families, and an unwavering commitment to student wellbeing and achievement. Continuous access to learning via our online portal, along with regular updates through our Facebook community, ensures families are informed and involved in each student’s journey. Whyalla Secondary College offers a dynamic, high-performing learning environment that values student voice, fosters independence, and delivers a rigorous, relevant, and inclusive curriculum. Through ATRiUM, students develop all five SACE capabilities, empowering them as active, capable citizens and members of the wider community.
