Two of our student leaders Kayla and Fariha represented Whyalla Secondary College on Saturday at the ANZAC Day parade and service. With respect and gratitude, they took part in the commemorations and had the honour of laying a wreath, paying tribute to those who have served and sacrificed. Their leadership and reflection on this important day was commendable. Lest we forget.

🌺 ANZAC Day 2026 🌺

On this ANZAC Day, Whyalla Secondary College honours the courage, sacrifice and enduring spirit of the Australian and New Zealand servicemen and women who have servedβ€”and continue to serveβ€”in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.

Though our school grounds are quiet today, our hearts are with all who pause to remember. As a community, we reflect on the values of mateship, courage and resilience that form the foundation of the ANZAC legacy.

We share The Ode of Remembrance as a tribute to all who have given so much:

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.
Lest We Forget.

We were honoured to welcome Dr Kylie Heneker, the Commissioner for Children and Young People, to Whyalla Secondary College last week.

Dr Heneker met with our Year 7 & 8 students alongside school leaders Taleya and Peter to have an important and thoughtful conversation about the impacts of the social media ban. Students shared their perspectives on how it is influencing friendships and their wellbeing β€” exploring both the positive changes and the ongoing challenges.

Peter and Taleya also had the pleasure of giving Dr Heneker a tour of our school, showcasing our learning spaces and the vibrant community we are so proud of.
It was powerful to see our young people engage so openly, respectfully, and insightfully on such a relevant issue. Opportunities like this highlight the importance of student voice and ensure that decisions affecting young people are informed by their lived experiences.

We thank Dr Heneker for taking the time to visit and for valuing the voices of our students.
