This term, the Visual Arts Department has been fortunate to secure a grant through Carclew - allowing for a visiting artist to work with our students. Daniel Ross (Moth) - is a practising artist from Elliston working with our Visual Arts classes during this term. Daniel will be running workshop sessions during class time on Thursdays - as students learn the art skills and techniques using Posca Paint markers. Here are our some of our Year 7 students working with Moth.
National Careers Week at Whyalla Secondary College

Recently representatives from student leadership attended a GRIP student leadership conference at the Adelaide university Whyalla campus. Students had the opportunity to reflect on challenges, collaborate with other schools and develop their leadership skills including public speaking. Students were encouraged to step out of their comfort zone and worked well as a leadership team to identify focus areas for the year.
We are proud to announce that Erin and Savannah are the first students to secure an Aged Care school-based traineeship with FUNLHN (Whyalla Hospital).
They will combine their studies in Certificate III in Individual Support with two days each week of hands-on work, supporting their successful completion of SACE and preparing them to be industry ready for a rewarding career in the care sector.
A huge thank you to Nicole, Deb, and the entire team at FUNLHN for partnering with Whyalla Secondary College. Your support is greatly valued and is making a real difference for our students.

Thinking about university after Year 12? 🎓
Whyalla Secondary College is excited to welcome Adelaide University’s FirstGEN Program for our Year 12 ATAR Pathway students!
This program is designed for students who are the first in their immediate family to attend university, offering valuable support, guidance and practical information to help make the transition to university clearer and more achievable.
📅 When: Monday, Week 4 (18th May)
🕒 Time: Lessons 3 & 4
📍 Where: Lumination Rooms
👥 Who: All Year 12 students on an ATAR Pathway (attendance required)
Across three sessions in Terms 2 and 3, students will explore:
✨ Study options and career interests
✨ University pathways
✨ First-year university concerns and support strategies
✨ Scholarships and student support services
✨ SATAC application assistance
🎉 Bonus Benefit: Students who complete the full program and list Adelaide University as a preference on their SATAC application will have their SATAC application fee covered by the university.

Last night, Whyalla Secondary College was pleased to host DfE Regional Pathways Advisor Dianne Fitzgerald for an engaging session on the Future of Work and its Impact on Education.
Mrs Reese`s Year 7 Visual Arts students were recently involved in the Whyalla Cuttlefest Create an Artwork competition. Students focused on colour blending and colour understandings during their art lessons. Keep an eye out as you may see some of their spectacular artwork on display in Whyalla during this local event. Well done to all everyone involved.
