Email: Harry.Philp447@schools.sa.edu.au

Hi, my name is Harry Philp. In 2024 I will be teaching health and PE in year 7, 8, 9, and 11. My passions include music, playing and watching sport. My free time generally includes hiking and just enjoying the great outdoors. This is my third-year teaching in Whyalla, and in my time here I have taught among various subject areas and am always eager to provide my knowledge to students, as well as learn new things they can teach me.

Hey, my name is Lauren Hegarty and I am a middle school Body and Mind teacher. This year I will be teaching Recreational PE, Fitness and Lifestyle and Specialist PE. I’m from Adelaide and moved to Whyalla in mid-2020. Away from school I’m heavily involved in the sporting community playing netball, basketball and football. I’ve been fortunate enough to be a part of premierships, team of year, and combined teams representing Whyalla. Sadly, I have ruptured my ACL but I will take on a few coaching roles this year to stay involved. Apart from sport, I love my family and friends, and treasure the relationships I’ve made in Whyalla, as they’ve become my family away from home. I can’t wait to meet all the students. I’m most excited to see their skills develop and their confidence grow within PE.

Welcome, my name is Pete Usher and I have the privilege of being the Assistant Principal of the year 7/8 community. Over the past 17 years I have worked as an educator across primary and secondary year levels both as a teacher and leader. At the College we value the positive relationships with both student and with families/carers, as you are integral to the success of your child throughout their college journey. Stepping away from the College, my world is my son and I treasure the time we spend together. I am a sports fanatic and love watching all sporting events on TV, particularly the mighty Sydney Swans. I am particularly passionate in watching my son engage in sport, although making you feel old, I enjoy seeing his excitement. I look forward to meeting you all throughout the year.

Hi Whyalla Secondary College, I am the new Sports Coordinator. I will be teaching Stage 2 Health and Wellbeing, Stage 2 Nutrition, and Body and Mind (PE) across years 8-10. I started my teaching career in Adelaide, moving to Gladstone High school last year, and more recently moving to Whyalla. My enthusiasm for health and physical education has been a long passion of mine and extends into my personal hobbies and lifestyle. I formally played in the SANFL for West Adelaide, but now spend my time staying active running with my dog Oakley. You’ll also catch me on the basketball court if I’m not busy camping or at the gym. You might think you’re seeing double, but you’re not; that is my older sister who has also started work at Whyalla Secondary College. Don’t get us confused, you’ll soon figure out I’m the more competitive one in the family.
