Whyalla Secondary College Official Opening

March 14th we had the pleasure of hosting our official opening with state and local government dignitaries, as well as site planning and building officials.

It was wonderful to finally celebrate our opening and share our journey

Honourable mentions to the Minister for Education, Training and Skills, Blair Boyer MP and Eddie Hughes MP, Member for Giles, who joined Principal Tricia Richman and the team for the unveiling of the official plaque.

📸 MEDIA CONSENT & 2026 SCHOOL PHOTOS 📸

Let’s talk about media consent and what it means for your student’s 2026 school photo.

In line with the Department for Education’s Media Consent Policy, students without a returned form or with “No Consent” selected cannot have their photo taken – this includes their annual school photo.

Our team has been working hard all year to collect as many consent forms as possible.

So, what do the consent levels actually mean?

✅ Full Consent – Internal, external & promotional use
✔️ Yearbooks, newsletters, secure platforms
✔️ Public websites, social media, advertising, and more

✅ Partial Consent – Internal & external use
✔️ Yearbooks, newsletters, secure platforms
✔️ Public websites, social media, print publications, recognised traditional media (broadcast, online, print)
❌ Does not include use in promotional materials

✅ Limited Consent – Internal use only
✔️ Yearbooks, newsletters, secure platforms only

❌ No Consent – No use at all
If you don’t wish to give limited consent but your student still needs an ID card, we can provide an ID Card Consent Form upon request. This ensures we can take your student’s photo for ID purposes only, without using it for any other internal or external use.

📄 Please note: The media consent form only needs to be filled out once and will remain in place throughout your student’s school years — unless the Department releases an updated form.

👉 If you haven’t submitted your form yet or want to make changes, please contact the school ASAP. Let’s make sure every student who wants their photo taken is able to do so!

Recently our Year 7 and 8 girls travelled to Port Augusta for the Regional Netball Carnival!

Year 7 results: Lost to Caritas College 22–2, beat Samaritan College 18–2, lost their semi-final to Caritas College 17–5.
Year 8 results: Lost to Samaritan College 19–11, beat Port Augusta Secondary School 16–10, lost their semi-final to Samaritan College 28–11.

Both teams faced off in the 5th/6th place match, with the Year 8s taking the win in a close game. All the girls played brilliantly and should be proud of their efforts!
