Library
Our library is a welcoming space, providing comfortable seating and a quiet area for students to work, study, read or play board/card games.
Students can access the library at recess and lunchtimes however, food and drinks are to be consumed outside.
Students should bring their student ID card with them when borrowing resources from the library.
There is a limit on how many books each student can borrow, which is dependent on their year level. Books can be borrowed for up to 2 weeks, and if required an extension can be arranged.
We appreciate the prompt return of books; we will send out overdue notices regularly via their care group teacher. Any resources which are returned damaged beyond repair will incur the cost of the item.
Premier’s Reading Challenge
Whyalla Secondary College continues to encourage our students to participate in the Premier’s Reading Challenge as a way to further their literacy skills.
What is the Premier’s Reading Challenge?
The Challenge is a literacy engagement strategy that requires students to read 12 age-appropriate books in a year. Students who complete the challenge receive an annual award.
Who can participate:
All students. The Premier’s Reading Challenge is open to all students from Reception to year 12 in South Australian government and non-government schools as well as home education students.
What must students do:
The Challenge is to read 12 books in total.
· Years 7 to 9, students read 4 books from the Challenge lists and 8 of their own choice.
· Years 10 to 12, students read 12 books of their own choice, and these can include prescribed texts and any other texts from their studies
